Maverick ET-732
The Maverick Redi Chek
ET-732 is a big improvement over the prior older
ET-73. Both units are wireless dual probe digital
thermometers that allow you to monitor your cooker
temp and meat temp. Both have upper and lower
temperature thresholds that can be set to alarm you
when the cooker or meat exceed or falls below the
threshold.
What has been incorporated into the new Maverick
ET-732 is a rounded design to the upper part of the
body giving it a sleeker look. The ET-732 also has
external antennas boating a range of 300 feet. When
I tested the range of the ET-732 I was able to
receive signal through my house and across the
street. Nicely done Maverick!
Maverick has also relocated the power switch on the
transmitter from inside the battery compartment in
the back of the unit to outside on the back near the
top. They also added a button to toggle between
Celsius and Fahrenheit. The power button on the
remote receive has been moved from the back to the
front of the unit.
The
batteries are now stored behind a door that is
sealed with a rubber o-ring gasket and held firmly
closed by two Philips head screws. This means the
door will always be secure and we avoid risking a
water leak.
The
temperature probe seems to read right on the money
when I had it setting next to my other grate
thermometer.
The
build quality seems to be better then the ET-73 and
the display on the receiver is much easier to read.
However, I would prefer a larger display on the
transmitter.
One way
I know for sure hoe accurate a thermometer may be is
to smoke up a load of chicken breasts. I'm very
picky about how done I like them . In fact I prefer
the 168 to 170 degrees range. The Maverick worked
like a charm. I pulled the chicken at 169 and it was
perfect.
During
this smoke I got an alarm letting me know the temp
had dropped below the threshold I set. I get too
wrapped up in maintaining this site some times and
once again I forgot to fill up the pellet hopper. My
Yoder YS640 ran out of pellets. Thanks to the low
temp alarm I set up on the ET-732, I was able to
pour in a bag of pellets before the fire went
completely out. My pit temperature quickly recovered
and the chicken was amazing.
